Castlevania : Curse of Darkness

 Introduction

Hello, this is Alucard, and here is a glimpse of upcoming attractions over on my YouTube Channel.  In the upcoming episodes, I will be covering secrets in the 3D Castlevania games.  Why the 3D games, you might ask?  Well, I'm running these particular secrets in anticipation of a remaster of the 3D Castlevania games, including Castlevania 64 or it's improved version with extra content known as Legacy of Darkness.  Numerous Castlevania games have been remastered ranging from the earliest titles for the Famicom and Nintendo Entertainment System or NES with the Anniversary Collection, down to the Nintendo DS games in the Dominus Collection as recently as the current year of 2024.  The remasters were a first release on multiple consoles including the Playstation, XBox, and the Nintendo Switch.  But the consoles weren't even all of it.  The remasters of Castlevania were also available for PC via the Steam gaming service.
With the current trend of Castlevania games being covered by remasters and very few not remastered and released across the major gaming platforms, the trend is toward Castlevania games which had a major console release being remastered, including the 3D Castlevania games for the Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, and XBox Consoles.  My attitude has always been that of preparedness, and so I will be focusing through this year and next year on releasing videos on secrets in the 3D Castlevania games, in preparation for the eventual release of the future Castlevania 3D Collection.  So get ready for more episodes in my series of Castlevania Game Secrets, in anticipation of the inevitable re-release of the 3D Castlevania Games! Also there is the hashtag of #castlevania3dcollection.

Legion

Ever since it's first appearance in Castlevania : Symphony of the Night, Legion has been a rather horrifying and gruesome, enemy in the Castlevania games.  Inspired by the Christian story in which a horde of Demons were cast out of a man into a herd of swine, Legion is itself, a Demonic horde, portrayed as a giant mass of corpses accumulated together.  Legion's appearance in Castlevania : Curse of Darkness is rather different than his usual appearances due to him not being a neccessary battle in the game in the PS2/XBox game.  He's one of the "Secret Bosses" in the Castlevania game series that make him a challenge to the player if they find him and defeat him as a boss battle.

Minimum Requirements

The absolute minimum requirement for accessing the path to Legion is the Devil-Type Innocent Devil.  That is find in the Eneomoaos Machine Tower.  After the Boss Fight with Saint Germain at the top of the Clock Tower, you can enter the room to acquire the new Devil-Type Innocent Devil.  When fighting St. Germain, it is key to use the Mage Type Innocent Devil's "Stop Time" ability when St. Germain uses his own time freeze spell to allow you to Steal a Unique Material from Germain which will prove useful in crafting more advanced items later on.

Regardless, the default ability of the Devil type of I.D. is that of Magic Circle.  The magic circle ability allows for the player to become a flat circle on the floor.  This flat circle ability allows for you to access areas such as past gates, fences, or low-hanging cracks in the walls in order to access secret areas.  You will need this ability to access the path to the Legion Boss Battle.

Now, with the Innocent Devil, proceed to the Garabaldi Temple on the first Floor to find the secret passage, in the lower right corner of this map with the
Map of the Garabaldi Temple.  Top (1st Floor).  "Use Magic Circle" is where the secret passage is located.

So that's it.  That's the end of what is actually required to access the corridor leading to the Hidden Boss of Legion.  But how about some more recommendations for when you actually enter that same Boss Battle?  Here are a few extra recommendations

Additional Recommendations

7-Bladed Sword

The Seven Bladed Sword is among the few weapons in Curse of Darkness which is imbued with the Dark Element.  The Dark Element is a key weakness for Legion when facing the Core of Legion in the second half of the boss battle, which actually is based on the element of light.  The Seven Bladed Sword will deal more damage than most blades against the final phase with Nuculais due to the Dark Element of the sword being the weakness of Nuculais, which is different from the first phase in which Legion is weak against Light.  There are multiple crafting ingredients for the 7-bladed sword, which are only found in more advanced stages of the game.

Dark Crystal

The first is the Dark Crystal, which has to be stolen from the Evil Cores, floating embryos of mysterious creatures found in the last stretch of the corridor before meeting Legion.  Stealing from Evil Cores is difficult by just striking them and then trying to steal, as the window is too short to not end up chaining the a combination attack from the initial strike.  Rather, the stealing of a Dark Crystal is done more effectively by having your innocent devil strike an Evil Core, then perform the Steal while the Evil Core is stunned.

An Evil Core

Beelzebub's Seal

A mysterious piece of Amber, Beelzebub's Seal cannot be stolen.  Rather, many of a particular type of enemy has to be destroyed until the improbable item drop for the material occurs.  The monster in question which has the rare carry of Beelzebub's Seal is the Unicorn, shown below.  The Unicorns are found in the Infinite Corridor Stage of the Game, unlocked after the Second Trevor Boss Battle at the top floor of the Abandoned Castle.  The Unicorns are found in the enclosed rooms of the Stage and use similar abilities as the Spellbooks from Castlevania Symphony of the Night.

The item drop is rare for Beelzebub's Seal, so be prepared to repeat various rooms for the potential number of battles neccessary for the rare item drop.  More common item drops from the Unicorn include the Forgotten Memory.

Damascus Steel and Damascus Sword

The Damascus Sword is the final advanced component for crafting the 7 Bladed Sword, besides that, there is only six short swords which are easily acquired by returning to the Baljhet Mountains or The Abandoned Castle in the game as a drop for low level monsters for the Bronze Material. To craft the Damascus Sword, the uncommon material is Damascus Steel.  Damascus Steel can be found in two locations, in Cordova Town and Aiolon Ruins, or it can be stolen from Iron Gladiators, found in the Eneomaos Machine Tower, or higher levels of the monster are found in Dracula's Castle or The Tower of Evermore.

Stealing from the Iron Gladiator can be a bit difficult, as there is only a small window for the Steal and a means to trigger the move which leaves him vulnerable to the Steal Ability.  In order to trigger his ground pounding move, you need to have no Innocent Devil Out, then quickly swoop in for the Steal when he pounds the ground.  With that accomplished, you can now not only reach Legion, but have better equipment for the showdown with the challenging Secret Boss!  Craft the 7 Bladed Sword (Damascus Sword + 6 Short Swords + Beelzebub's Seal + Dark Crystal) and be ready to face the formidable boss in his chamber!
