Did a Castlevania Game Get Released on Easter?
Actually no, a Castlevania game did not get released on Easter. There are other Castlevania games released on Holidays, much less religious holidays, but these did not include Easter. Castlevania : Curse of Darkness was released initially in North America on November 1, 2005, also the night after Halloween or the holiday of All Saints' Day observed by the Roman Catholic Church. Super Castlevania IV was released on Halloween of 1991, and Castlevania : Bloodlines, the lowest-selling Castlevania game, was released on St. Patrick's Day of 1994. However, when you get into the fictional settings of the Castlevania games themselves, yes, the original Castlevania game occurs on the Night Before Easter, or Easter Eve, where Dark Cultists performed a ritual to resurrect Dracula, who had been killed 100 years prior by Christopher Belmont during Castlevania : Belmont's Revenge. So where do all these Castlevania fans get this information that Castlevania, the original game in the series, was set on the night before Easter? It's in the original Japanese manual!
You see, as someone in North America who had the NES version of Castlevania, we got the worst deal when it comes to all the artwork and story that the Japanese got for the Famicom version of their game in Japan. The longer Japanese Manual contains the story of the game in addition to basics of how the game is played. I'm not going to lie, I liked a lot of the extras that some PC and video game manuals contained when I was growing up. The artwork, the little stories of the games, and so on, I enjoyed the manuals that I got for my earlier video games and PC games growing up immensely. But returning to the topic at hand, "Where can you find the original game manual for the 1986 Castlevania game?"
Well, the good news is that there is a place where you can find it, the website is known as Castlevania Crypt. Castlevania Crypt has scans of all the Castlevania game manuals, strategy guides, official artwork, and more! The original Japanese manual for the Famicom version of the game is available to view pages in PDF format on the website. The original Japanese manual is 43 pages long in contrast to the North American English manual being only 23 pages, and that story and lore of Castlevania is missing from that manual. Either way, Castlevania Crypt is a gold mine of trivia with copies of the original sources on the site, and therefore worth checking out!
And as before, I will say, as I always do in conclusion, "Until we meet again, farewell"
